The water body is classified as an excellent quality marine-coastal area based on monitoring data from 2017-2020. The bathing area is situated within the Ugento-Limite sud AMP Porto Cesareo water body.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017-2020). The treated wastewater discharge from Gallipoli treatment plant, receiving sewage from civil and industrial settlements, is located at the southern boundary of the bathing area. No short-term pollution events have been recorded in the past four years.

Risks

The primary potential pollution source is the Gallipoli wastewater treatment plant discharge at the southern boundary. No algal blooms or cyanobacterial proliferation have been detected. No potentially toxic algal species have been identified in the past four years.
