Water quality classification: elevato (high). The area is monitored according to Directive 91/271/CE standards. Currently, no specific active monitoring programmes are in place to monitor pollutant concentrations and limit their diffusion during the bathing season. The area contains 13 active urban wastewater treatment plants serving populations over 2000 equivalent inhabitants in the municipality of Latina.

Risks

Shellfish farming activity identified as a pollution source. Approaches for modelling short-duration pollution events are still under study. No cyanobacterial proliferation events recorded in the previous four years. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or marine phytobenthos proliferation events recorded in the previous four years.
