Anse Turin is a bathing beach located in the commune of Carbet on the north Caribbean coast of Martinique. The beach is situated north of the Carbet River and is characterized by an open-water environment. The bathing area is subject to northeast bottom currents that tend to direct pollutants toward the swimming zone. The beach profile has been classified as Type 1, indicating that bathing water contamination risk is not established and water quality is simulated to be sufficient, good, or excellent according to European Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/CE.

Coastal bathing area in an open-water environment on the Caribbean Sea, subject to northeast bottom currents. The area is fed by the Anse Turin ravine and the Anse Latouche ravine, both of which drain into the bathing zone.

Location

Carbet, Martinique. The complete profile is available at Place Jules Grevy, 97221 Carbet. The bathing zone is north of the Carbet River.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Type 1 profile. The bathing water is simulated to be of sufficient, good, or excellent quality according to Directive 2006/7/CE, based on sanitary control results from the four previous bathing seasons. Bacterial contamination risk is not established.

Risks

The beach is vulnerable to pollution dispersion via flooding. Northeast bottom currents tend to direct pollutants into the bathing zone. Upstream sources of potential bacterial contamination include the collective wastewater network and treatment station in the Bout Bois district, as well as runoff from the densely inhabited neighborhoods of Bout Bois, La Caféière, and Beauregard.
