Bellariva - Colonnella 1 is a sandy beach located in Rimini in the municipality of Rimini in the Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends for approximately 1.2 km and is not protected by cliffs. It is a highly touristic area with a constant presence of rescue services during the bathing season. The beach width is variable between 180–200 m.

Water

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial area with high stability. The bathing area extends 1.227 km. The area is not fed by watercourses under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC.

Location

Rimini, Emilia-Romagna region, in the Bellariva locality. The area is characterized by high tourist activity with numerous hotels and beach establishments.

Facilities

30 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage outlets. Rescue service present during bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for the reference years 2019–2022. Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 59 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 84 CFU/100 ml. Enterococci intestinales (90th percentile): 24 CFU/100 ml; Enterococci intestinales (95th percentile): 29 CFU/100 ml. A temporary bathing prohibition was issued on 28 July 2022 following an anomalous situation with Escherichia coli exceeding legal limits on 26 July 2022; the prohibition was revoked on 29 July 2022.

Risks

Emergency overflow discharge (Scaricatore Colonnella 1) from mixed sewerage system during heavy or prolonged rainfall events. The overflow discharge location is marked by a gate (usually closed) and warning triangular signs. Potential for eutrophication due to proximity of Fossa Colonnella 1, though no sustained eutrophic phenomena supported by cyanobacteria have been reported in the last 4 years. No phytoplankton (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae blooms reported for 2019–2022.
