Bellariva - Colonnella 2 is a sandy beach bathing area in Rimini, in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 900 meters. The beach is not protected by cliffs and experiences high tourist use with numerous hotels and beach establishments. A constant lifeguard service operates during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial area with high stability. The area covers 0.874 km². The water body is part of the central-southern coastal area of the Adriatic Sea.

Location

Located in Rimini municipality at Bellariva. The area contains 17 beach establishments. Beach width varies between 180 and 200 meters.

Facilities

17 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food service points. Three authorized launch corridors for water sports located at beach establishments 78, 86, and 86A.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for the reference years 2019-2022. Escherichia Coli (90th percentile): 37 CFU/100ml; Escherichia Coli (95th percentile): 48 CFU/100ml. Intestinal Enterococci (90th percentile): 24 CFU/100ml; Intestinal Enterococci (95th percentile): 29 CFU/100ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded legal limits; this was classified as an anomalous situation by the European Commission and replaced with data from the following sample taken on 28 July 2022.

Risks

Emergency overflow from the mixed sewerage network (overflow n. 47 at the Colonnella 2 pumping station) can discharge excess water during intense or prolonged rainfall. Two first-flush tanks with capacities of 4,600 and 30,000 cubic meters have been constructed to mitigate discharge impact. The Fossa Macanno nearby may cause eutrophication phenomena. No sustained eutrophic phenomena caused by cyanobacteria have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton blooms (Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae blooms were recorded during 2019-2022.
