Camping Le Lac

France Lake 1 - Excellent

Camping Le Lac is a bathing spot located at a private campground in Plazac, Dordogne. The site features a 3.5-hectare lake with a sandy beach approximately 50 metres long and 8 metres wide. The bathing zone is about 50 metres long by 5 metres wide with sandy bottom to a depth of 2 metres. The lake is fed partly by a stream and primarily by underground springs. Swimming is open from 1 July to 31 August and is restricted to camping residents only, with an average summer attendance of approximately 100 swimmers per day.

Water

A privately managed pond (étang) with a surface area of approximately 3.5 hectares. Average water depth is 2 metres, with a maximum depth of approximately 4 metres. The catchment area comprises woodland, scrubland, meadow, and a wetland traversed by a stream. Most of the water renewal comes from groundwater sources. The lake bottom in the bathing zone is sand.

Location

Plazac, Dordogne, France, approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Périgueux. The site is situated at 45°2'6" North, 1°2'22" East, at an altitude of 122 metres. Parking is available at the campground.

Facilities

Sandy beach cleaned daily. Private campground with 115 pitches and mobile home facilities. Direct access for camping residents. Surveillance point coordinates: X 498383; Y 2004251.

Season

1 July to 31 August. Bathing is unmonitored and exclusively reserved for camping residents.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for the 2010 season under European Directive 2006/7/CE. Between 2005 and 2010, bacteriological monitoring showed mostly good results with occasional medium ratings. Cyanobacteria were detected on multiple occasions between 2005 and 2010, including species such as Oscillatoria, Pseudanabaena, Planktothrix, Aphanothece, Anabaena, and Microcystis. Water temperatures ranged from 17°C to 27°C during the monitoring period.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms detected seasonally, particularly in summer months. Storm water runoff and soil leaching from heavy rains pose a risk of water quality degradation. Individual wastewater systems in four to five upstream dwellings present a potential pollution source.
