Cleethorpes is a popular resort with a gently sloping sandy beach. The beach is backed by a promenade and gardens, and behind is the town.

Risks

There are storm and emergency outfalls that discharge to the sea, and to the Buck Beck, Louth Canal and Laceby/Freshney catchments. These are designed to operate only during emergencies or heavy rainfall and to protect properties from being flooded by sewage.

In 2024 Anglian Water completed improvements to Riby Street pumping station, which should result in a reduction in storm sewage spilled from this asset during heavy rainfall events. Over the investment period 2025-2030 improvements are due to be made to a number of Anglian Water assets in the vicinity including Tetney Newton Marsh and Grimsby Pyewipe, as part of a wider national programme to reduce spills from combined sewer overflows.
