Emajõe Vabaujula is a bathing site located on the Emajõgi River in Tartu, Estonia. The site is used for swimming and water recreation. Water quality monitoring has been conducted since 2007 to assess compliance with bathing water standards established under EU Directive 2006/7/EÜ.

Water Quality

Water quality classification and monitoring results are presented in Appendix 1 (analytical results 2007–2011) and Appendix 2 (quality assessment and classification 2007–2010). Potential pollution sources identified include: Tartu wastewater treatment plant, harbours, stormwater and sewer systems.

Risks

Potential risks include cyanobacteria blooms, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation. Short-term pollution events and other pollution sources may affect water quality.
