The Cazalegas Reservoir is a bathing area located in the Alberche River channel in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The swimming zone is situated before the dam, opposite a restaurant and camping area. The reservoir was created in 1954 and is designated as a Wildlife Refuge. The bathing area features a sandy and gravel beach with surrounding vegetation including holm oaks, junipers, and riverside species.

Water

Cazalegas Reservoir on the Alberche River. Surface area of 293 hectares at normal water level. Capacity of 6,570 cubic hectometres. Monomictic, siliceous water body. Substrate composed of fluvial origin gravels, sands, and silts. Water reserves during bathing season range from 6.5 to 8.3 cubic hectometres.

Location

Cazalegas municipality, Toledo province. Access via highway A-5, exit 101 towards Cazalegas. The bathing zone is located before the dam, opposite the restaurant and camping area. Parking is available.

Parking available. Toilets and showers present. Bar/snack bar available. Picnic areas. Waste bins and waste collection. Information signs. Boat ramp. Recreational zone. No lifeguards or swimming pools.

Season

1 June to 22 September. The health authority publishes the official bathing season annually.

Water Quality

The water body is classified as heavily modified. The underlying groundwater mass (Talavera 030.015) is in poor ecological status as of 2015-2021. The reservoir serves as a water supply source for Talavera de la Reina and irrigation purposes.
