Cuerda del Pozo is a continental bathing area located in the Cuerda del Pozo reservoir in Cidones, Soria, Castilla y León, Spain. The bathing zone is situated on the Duero River at an altitude of 1,077 meters. The beach features fine to medium sand with a well-conserved natural environment including pine forests and oak vegetation. The reservoir has a total surface area of 2,176.6 hectares and a volume of 229.2 cubic hectometers.

Water

Reservoir (embalse) on the Duero River. Surface area: 2,176.6 hectares. Volume: 229.2 cubic hectometers. Maximum normal water level: 1,084.6 meters. The reservoir substrate consists of sandstone with carbonate and green or red clay. Beach bed and soil composed of fine to medium sand.

Location

The bathing area is accessed from Herreros following signs to Playa Peña Gamella. Herreros is located 2.6 kilometers from the bathing zone. Parking is available at the site.

Water Quality

Water quality classification complied with imperative values during 2003-2009 according to Royal Decree 734/1988. Monitoring data from 2008-2009 showed low concentrations of Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Fecal coliforms remained below 2,000 CFU/100ml threshold. Point pollution sources include wastewater treatment plants from nearby towns (Covaleda, Salduero, Molinos de Duero, Vinuesa, Abejar, Herreros) at distances ranging from 2.7 to 21 kilometers. Diffuse sources include cattle, sheep, and other livestock from surrounding municipalities.

Risks

Self-contamination from bathing area users noted as significant short-duration pressure. Natural foam present on shoreline edges.
