The Mequinenza Reservoir bathing area is located in Caspe, Zaragoza, Spain, within the Ebro River basin. The bathing zone consists of two beaches situated on either side of a main pier and is operated as an annex to the Camping Lake Caspe complex. The reservoir is used for hydroelectric power generation and irrigation, with a surface area of 75.4 hectares and maximum normal water level at 121 metres altitude. Water quality monitoring in 2014 classified the bathing water as excellent to good based on E. coli and enterococcal measurements.

Water

Mequinenza Reservoir on the Ebro River. Surface area: 75.4 hectares. Volume: 1530 cubic hectometres. Maximum normal water level elevation: 121 metres. Bed composed of rocky substrate alternating with blocks, stones, and medium-sized pebbles, with silty substrate in the first metres from the shore. The reservoir is monomictic, calcareous, located in non-humid zones on the lower reach of the main Ebro axis.

Location

Caspe, Zaragoza, Aragón, Spain. Access from Caspe via road N-211 towards Mequinenza at approximately km 286.7, turning onto the Camping Lake Caspe complex. The bathing zone is located on both sides of the main pier. Parking is available at the camping facility.

No rescue posts. No canteens/picnic areas. No trash bins separate from general collection. No fountains. No swimming pools.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2014 was excellent to good according to Real Decreto 1341/2007 criteria based on E. coli and enterococcal (intestinal enterococcus) measurements. E. coli and enterococcal concentrations were below threshold limits during the July-August 2014 monitoring period. The water body status is classified as deficient. No health risk assessment was performed for enterococcal concentrations exceeding 1000 UFC/100 ml as the bathing area is located in a reservoir.
