Location

Lizzano, Taranto province, Puglia region. The bathing area is located at the mouth of Canale Ostoni, at the northern boundary of which the Lizzano wastewater treatment plant discharges.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No direct wastewater discharges to the sea are present. A potential point pollution source is represented by the Lizzano wastewater treatment plant located at the mouth of Canale Ostoni at the northern boundary.

Risks

Foce del Canale Ostoni has been identified as a cause of potential pollution. The area is not characterized by algal or cyanobacterial blooms, and no cases of potentially toxic algal species proliferation have been detected. No short-duration pollution events have been recorded in the last four years.
