Foce Torrente San Marco is a sandy beach with a gradual slope in the coastal waters of the Strait of Sicily near Sciacca, Sicily. The beach has medium slope both in the submerged zone and on the emerged terrain. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality. The area features Mediterranean scrubland and some residential development.

Coastal marine water (Acque marino costiere) in the Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia), coastal section no. 14, belonging to the Sicily regional water plan.

Location

Sciacca, Province of Agrigento, Sicily. The bathing area extends for 1.494 square kilometers along the coast. The competent authority is the Municipality of Sciacca, Via Roma 13, Tel. 0925 20111.

Facilities

Seasonal refreshment point and first aid and emergency assistance service available to swimmers. Animals are permitted to access the beach, with no signage prohibiting entry.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is influenced by the San Marco Torrent as an identified source of short-term pollution events, including urban runoff water and untreated wastewater discharge. Wastewater treatment infrastructure exists as a collection network, though data on compliance of treatment plants with Directive 91/271/EC standards is not available.

Risks

Short-term pollution events from urban runoff and untreated wastewater discharge from the San Marco Torrent. Temporary swimming bans may occur during exceptional meteorological or marine weather conditions.
