Portugal River 1 - Excellent

Folgosa is a rural beach in the Douro River basin with a cement platform for water access and shade areas. The bathing water is monitored biweekly during the official season. No bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution occurred in the 2024 season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009. No days of bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution events were recorded in the 2024 bathing season. Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur from excessive tributary flow during rainfall carrying microbiological load or from untreated effluent discharges.

Risks

Potential faecal contamination from illegal discharges into the Mau River or tributary waterways (Rib.ª de Vergadas) upstream or from sanitation infrastructure damage. Proliferation of cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton is unlikely.
