Unit 3 comprises Garoupe Beach, located at the bottom of Garoupe Cove on the emblematic site of Cap d'Antibes. The beaches are natural sandy beaches with annual sand replenishment. Two monitoring points are located at the eastern and western extremities of the beach. The beaches face southeast toward the Ligurian current and easterly swells. A seagrass meadow of Posidonia extends to the center of the beach.

Garoupe Est: Lifeguard and rescue swimmer, 5 bins, 1 shower, 4 toilets, 2 washbasins, drinking water, bathing water results display, safety and hygiene instructions. No accessible ramps (PMR) or accessible sanitary facilities at either location. Animals are prohibited.

Water Quality

Garoupe Est: Sufficient quality (2020–2023). Garoupe Ouest: Good quality (2020, 2023), Sufficient quality (2021–2022). Type 1 vulnerability profile with few, simple, and well-known pollution sources. Temporary swimming bans occurred in 2020 (4–5 June and 22–24 September due to storm-related sewage network overload) and 2022 (29–30 June). In 2021, threshold exceedance at Garoupe Est due to a network failure on an adjacent property. No threshold exceedances or bans in 2023.

Risks

Urban stormwater runoff with street washing water and parasitic water flows during dry periods. Risk of contamination from Garoupe sewage lifting station with buried overflow pipe under the beach. Public toilets at Garoupe Ouest may be in charge during heavy rain. Marine imports: recurring moderate bacterial contamination (100–999 NPP/100ml) occurring from mid-July in years 2014–2022, absent in 2023. Wastewater network interconnections and parcellary network failures.
