Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Gollinsee (also known as Großer Gollinsee) is a natural lake located approximately 10 km southeast of Templin on the southern edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The lake is 2.3 km long, approximately 200 m wide, with a surface area of 38.4 hectares and a maximum depth of 13 m. It is fed solely by groundwater with no surface inflows and is completely surrounded by forest that forms part of the Bollwinwiesen/Gollinsee nature reserve. The lake is one of the clearest in Brandenburg, with visibility depths at the bathing area ranging from 1.6 to 5 m during the season.

Water

Natural lake with a surface area of 38.41 hectares, maximum depth of 13 m, and mean depth of 6.6 m. Water temperature ranges from 12.7°C to 24.2°C (mean 20.3°C). pH values range from 7.13 to 8.2 (mean 7.41). The lake is fed entirely by groundwater. Water transparency ranges from 1.6 to 5 m (mean 4.1 m). Salinity is less than 0.5‰. Geology is calcareous and sandy.

Location

The bathing area (Gollin) is located at the northern end of the lake near the village of Gollin. The responsible authority is Landkreis Uckermark, Gesundheits- und Veterinäramt, Karl-Marx-Str. 1, 17291 Prenzlau, telephone 03984/70 4153. The beach length is 25 m.

Facilities

Volleyball facilities available. No nudist bathing area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring periods from 2016–2019 through 2021–2024. Microbiological parameters for 2021–2024: E. coli 95th percentile 15/100 ml, 90th percentile 15/100 ml; intestinal enterococci 95th percentile 15/100 ml, 90th percentile 15/100 ml. No individual exceedances of E. coli or intestinal enterococci parameters recorded. The profile was last updated on 15 February 2025. Monitoring is conducted by the district health authority through samples taken every four weeks during the bathing season.

Risks

No blue-green algal blooms observed during the bathing season. No future risk of cyanobacteria mass development. No risk of bathing dermatitis from cercariae. Macroalgae and aquatic plants are present; no future risk of phytoplankton mass development. Short-term microbiological pollution is not expected. Short-term pollution events are not expected.
