Gräbendorfer See is an artificial lake formed from a lignite mining pit operated between 1981 and 1992, located approximately 16 km southwest of Cottbus in the Luckau-Calau Basin. With a surface area of 466 hectares, maximum depth of 46 metres, and volume of 95 million cubic metres, it ranks among Brandenburg's medium-sized mining lakes. The lake was flooded with Spree river water starting in 1997 to prevent acidification, making it the first completely reflooded lignite mining lake in Brandenburg after 1990. It is designated for quiet recreational use and has been open for swimming since 2010.
