Grande Anse is a bathing beach in the commune of Trois Rivières in Guadeloupe. The beach is located on the coast and is subject to monitoring for bacteriological water quality. Water

Coastal marine water body. The seafloor is characterized by varying depths, with measurements taken at 43 metres depth offshore. Two watercourses (ravines) discharge near the beach: the ravine Grand Etang (900 metres long) to the east and the ravine Petit Etang (400 metres long) in the centre of the beach.

Location

Trois Rivières, Guadeloupe. The bathing zone of Grande Anse is located on the coastal area of the commune.

Season

Official monitoring season operates from 2008 through 2016 data presented, with ongoing surveillance. Distinct dry season (December to May) and rainy season (June to November) affect water conditions.

Water Quality

Bacteriological monitoring conducted from 2008 to 2016 tracked E. coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations. Water quality classification determined through sanitary assessment of bathing waters. Contamination episodes correlated with precipitation events. Maximum concentrations observed during the monitoring period are documented.

Risks

Macro-algae beaching (Sargassum species). Cnidarians and jellyfish present in the water. Reef fish species including stonefish and flying scorpionfish. Potential contamination sources include two ravines that discharge near the beach, wastewater treatment plant effluent, direct sewage discharges, and autonomous sanitation systems in non-networked areas.
