The Grötzinger Baggersee has its northeastern part located within the FFH Area No. 6917-343 'Kinzig-Murg-Rinne between Bruchsal and Karlsruhe' and within the nature reserve 'Weingartener Moor-Bruchwald Grötzingen', where bathing and leaving designated paths are prohibited according to the nature reserve regulations. The southwestern part of the lake lies within the landscape protection area 'Bruchwald bei Grötzingen' (LSG-VO from 15.10.1962) and is divided into various usage zones. Swimming is only permitted at the designated 'bathing area' on the southeastern shore of this lake section during summer daylight hours. Diving is also only allowed in very limited circumstances with an authorization card. Staying between sunset and sunrise is not permitted. The legal regulations (usage rules for bathing and protected areas) can be viewed online at www.karlsruhe.de (Stadtrecht). The public bathing area is marked by a buoy chain. A small sunbathing meadow is available. Toilets and waste containers are set up during the bathing season.
