The Große Beutelsee is located southwest of Templin in the southern part of the Uckermärkische Seen nature park and on the edge of the Kleine Schorfheide nature reserve. The lake covers 54 hectares with a maximum depth of 7.9 m and an average depth of 4.2 m. Water transparency ranges from 0.7 to 2.6 m in summer. Despite being classified as having unsatisfactory ecological status due to high nutrient content, the bathing water offers very good quality. The lake receives tributaries from the Gallenbeck and Ragösenbach streams.
