Templiner See is a large lake in southern Potsdam, part of a chain of lakes along the Havel River, which flows through its entire 7 km length as a federal waterway. The lake covers 598 hectares and lies in an ice age basin with a maximum depth of 12 metres and average depth of 3.3 metres. Most of the lake shore is characterized by residential areas, with a traditional airship harbour on the western shore and mixed forest on the eastern shore. The bathing site Waldbad Templin operates on the southeastern shore, offering extensive sunbathing areas, gastronomy, and water sports facilities.
