Hotel International beach is located 50 m south of the hotel in Senigallia. The beach features fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand with a mean slope of 3% on both the emerged and submerged portions. It is protected by artificial rocky cliffs and the artificial cliffs of the Senigallia canal port. The distance between mean-low and high water (safe water limit) is 80 m, with astronomical tides of 30–50 cm.

Coastal bathing water body of the Fano_Senigallia water body. Beach area covers 0.69575 km². The Misa River watershed influences the area. Maximum distance between water levels is 80 m.

Location

Senigallia, Ancona Province, Marche region, Italy. The beach extends 800 m in length and 70 m in width. Parking and facilities are available through beach establishments.

Water Quality

Classification: E (poor quality). Category C bathing water. The area is densely urbanized. Sewage network serves all urbanized territory; treatment plant with activated sludge capacity of 20,000 m³/day or 100,000 equivalent inhabitants is located near the Misa River mouth. Urban sewage equivalent inhabitants served: approximately 39,300; industrial wastewater: approximately 770 equivalent inhabitants. Summer fluctuations: approximately 10,300–20,500 floating equivalent inhabitants. E. coli monitoring (2010): values ranged from below detection limit to 300 CFU/100 ml; maximum authorized discharge concentration: 500 CFU/100 ml.

Risks

Combined sewer system with overflow structures that discharge to water bodies during intense rainfall events. Discharge points from Fosso Bologna and Misa River mouth include treated wastewater and multiple overflow discharge points. In 2009, Fibrocapsa japonica (non-toxic diatom) caused a massive proliferation throughout August, producing brown-reddish discoloration and oily water consistency.
