Hotel Rita is a fine sand beach in Senigallia, Marche region, with quartz-feldspar and calcareous sandy composition sloping at an average of 3%. The beach is protected by emergent artificial reefs and measures 800 metres long by 130 metres wide. It is situated in a densely urbanized tourist area with railway passage nearby. Maximum daily bathers reach 4000 during high season.

Coastal water body designated Fano_Senigallia. Average distance to water (safe water limit) is 80 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres. Water area covered is 0.92815 hectares.

Water Quality

Classification E. E. coli monitoring conducted by ARPAM in 2010 showed variable results: January 10 CFU/100 ml, March 300 CFU/100 ml, May and June 80 CFU/100 ml, August 10 CFU/10 ml, September 20 CFU/100 ml, November 10 CFU/100 ml; February, April, July, October, and December were below the limit of determination. Wastewater treatment is provided by an active sludge treatment plant located at via Po serving approximately 39,300 urban equivalent inhabitants with seasonal fluctuation. Overflow discharges occur during intense rainfall events into three drainage channels (Fosso centro Recuperi, Fosso Stella Maris, Fosso della Giustizia) that discharge to sea via concrete conduits.

Risks

Phytoplankton proliferation documented in 2009 with massive bloom of Fibrocapsa japonica (non-toxic) causing brownish-red discoloration and oily consistency of water. Overflow discharges from combined sewer system during heavy rainfall events.
