Marine bathing water area on the Brittany coast, subject to Atlantic Ocean tidal and current influences, with wind regime and temperature variations characteristic of the Loire-Bretagne region.

Location

Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, Morbihan department (56), Brittany, France. The commune address is 70 rue du docteur Le Gall.

Facilities

Monitoring surveillance is in place at the bathing zone. Equipment and facilities are present on and near the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality assessment conducted under Directive 2006/7/CE on bathing waters. Historical water quality data and robustness of the bathing zone classification were evaluated. The area is managed under the SDAGE Loire-Bretagne and SAGE Golfe du Morbihan et Ria d'Etel frameworks.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include failures at pumping stations, storm water discharge outlets, non-compliant autonomous sewage systems, misconnected drainage from the Kermahé catchment, and presence of animals on the beach. Potential for phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation was assessed.
