Sedmihorky Swimming Pools is an artificial water reservoir located at an elevation of 253 meters. The bathing area covers approximately 0.02 square kilometres and features a grassy shore with a sandy beach and a muddy bottom. The beach extends approximately 50 metres. Daily visitor numbers are below 500 persons. The site offers accommodation in cottages, tents, and caravans, along with restaurants, refreshment stands, toilets, showers, and sports facilities.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on microbiological indicators (enterococci and Escherichia coli). However, the bathing area is classified as high-risk due to frequent algal blooms. Bathing prohibitions were issued by the regional hygiene authority in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2024. Algal cell counts ranged from 5,000 to 780,000 cells/ml across individual years, with the worst situation recorded in 2018. Chlorophyll-a values reached maximums of 20–378 μg/l. Transparency showed a declining trend with median values between 0.2–0.9 metres across 2005–2024.

Risks

Frequent algal blooms. Low water transparency (0.2–0.9 metres). Risk of bacterial contamination from bathers and recreational settlement. Carp fishery practices contribute to elevated nutrient levels. Internal phosphorus reserves in sediment may release phosphorus during oxygen-poor periods, promoting algal growth.
