Kylpylän beach is located along the Kymijoki River in the city centre and has a long tradition as a swimming and recreation area. It is designated as an EU bathing water beach. The city also operates eight smaller public bathing beaches. Kylpylän beach functions as a winter swimming location during the winter season.

Location

Kylpylän beach is located in the city centre at Maaherrankatu 1a. Eight smaller public beaches are located at: Hevossaari (Mömmönraitti 12), Jyränkö (Koskensaarentie 33), Kaivanto (Kaivannonlahdentie 3), Kotajärvi (Pappilantie 32), Myllyoja (Rantatie 10), Sinilähde (Kaarikuja), Uudenriihenlampi (Siltakatu 282), and Vihutjärvi (Uittimenkuja 21).

Facilities

Kylpylän beach: changing rooms, shower facilities, toilets, lifeguards during official hours (10:00–18:00), children's play area, dock, diving boards, beach volleyball court, SUP boards, grass areas for sunbathing, street workout equipment, two teqball tables, frisbee putting park, sauna operator. Smaller public beaches: changing cabins, dry toilets, information boards. Hevossaari and Myllyoja do not have docks. The smaller beaches have no lifeguard supervision.

Season

Official swimming season is during the period when water quality monitoring occurs. Winter swimming is available at Kylpylän beach for members of Heinolan Talviuimarit ry (Winter Swimmers Association).

Water Quality

Kylpylän beach is classified as an EU bathing water beach with water quality testing reports available. Water quality at the smaller public beaches is monitored regularly by health protection authorities during the swimming season. Testing results are documented with reports available for multiple dates throughout the year.
