Marine coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean adjacent to Noirmoutier-en-l'Île. The area includes tidal flats, salt marshes, and shellfish cultivation zones. Oceanographic characteristics include general current patterns and seabed composition.

Location

Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, France. Six monitored bathing beaches are located within the municipality: Fort Larron, Sableaux and Dames, Clère and Grand Vieil, Linière, and Luzéronde.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). Surveillance network operated by IFREMER. Assessment includes bacteriological quality of bathing waters and shellfish harvesting areas for recreational foot collection. Monitoring campaigns conducted in July and August 2010 with hydrodynamic modelling performed to evaluate pollution transport.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include non-collective sanitation systems, collective sewer network, wastewater treatment stations (Casie-Barbâtre and Salaisière), stormwater discharge points, and recirculation pump stations. Macroalgae proliferation potential assessed. Salt marsh activities and recreational foot collection activities also noted as potential impact factors.
