La Française is a bathing beach located in Fort-de-France, Martinique, situated in the extension of the Malecon with Fort Saint-Louis forming one end of the site. The beach is subject to tropical climate conditions with two distinct seasons: the dry season (carême) from January to May and the humid season (hivernage) from June to November. Water temperatures range from 26 to 31°C and remain relatively stable throughout the year.

Coastal marine water body in the Bay of Fort-de-France. The bay exhibits mixed tidal characteristics, varying between semi-diurnal and diurnal types. Normal tidal range (marnage) does not exceed 0.50 m during spring tides and is limited to 0.20 m during neap tides. Storm surge during cyclonic periods can cause sea level elevations exceeding 1 m.

Fort-de-France, Martinique, France. The bathing site is located along the coastline at coordinates 01°04'02°W / 14°38'04°N, in the extension of the Malecon. Fort Saint-Louis marks one end of the site.

Water Quality

Water quality profile was developed under Directive 2006/7/CE. The assessment includes identification and evaluation of microbiological pollution sources, including domestic wastewater, industrial activities, mooring zones, and stormwater discharge. Potential for macroalgae and phytoplankton was evaluated.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include domestic wastewater discharge, industrial activities, diffuse pollution from mooring zones, and stormwater runoff. Cyclonic periods from July to mid-November present elevated risk due to potential storm surge effects on beach conditions.
