La Plage de la Source is a bathing beach located in the commune of Pornic in Loire-Atlantique, France. The beach is subject to tidal variations and is exposed to oceanic conditions including currents and wave action. A vulnerability profile was established for the beach in January 2011 to assess water quality and potential pollution sources.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored bacteriologically. Historical quality data spans 2000-2010. Water quality assessments follow the 2006 directive. Self-monitoring results are available from 2003 to 2010. Potential proliferation of macroalgae and phytoplankton has been evaluated.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include coastal rivers, rainwater discharge outlets, wastewater treatment systems, combined sewer networks, stormwater networks, agricultural runoff, and non-collective sanitation systems. Marine pollution episodes have been documented affecting water quality.
