France Lake 1 - Excellent

Lake Chambon is a bathing water body located in the communes of Chambon-sur-Lac and Murol in the Puy-de-Dôme department. The lake is subject to monitoring for bathing water quality under European directives, with particular attention to bacterial contamination and cyanobacteria proliferation. Water quality assessments follow the requirements of Directive 2006/7/CE and Directive 76/160/CEE.

Water

Lake Chambon (Plan d'eau du lac Chambon) is an inland freshwater lake. The hydrographic basin includes the watershed of the lake with specific topography and hydrological characteristics affecting water flow and quality.

Location

The bathing area is located in the communes of Chambon-sur-Lac and Murol. The study was conducted by ATHOS Environnement and Université Blaise Pascal, located at 24 Avenue des Landais, 63171 Aubière Cedex.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci according to European directives. The profile includes assessment of bacterial quality according to Directive 76/160/CEE and Directive 2006/7/CE. Water transparency and temperature are measured. Physico-chemical quality data was collected through the Operational Control Network (RCO) and ATHOS Environnement monitoring in 2014.

Risks

Potential cyanobacteria proliferation is identified as a risk requiring assessment. Macro-algae proliferation episodes are monitored. Animal access to bathing areas and impacts from swimming activities are documented. Macro-waste is noted as a potential concern.
