Water Quality

Water quality classification is elevated. No specific monitoring programmes are currently active to monitor pollutant concentrations during the bathing season. One urban wastewater treatment plant serving populations over 2000 inhabitants is operational in the municipality.

Risks

The bathing water is potentially affected by mollusk aquaculture activities. Cyanobacterial proliferation of Planktothrix rubescens has been documented in previous years, though no toxic effects on swimmers or the aquatic environment have been verified. Short-duration pollution events are under study for adequate modelling approaches.
