This document is a vulnerability profile study for four bathing zones in Quiberon: Goviro, Conguel, Porigo, and Castero. The study examines geomorphological, oceanographic, and climatic contexts affecting these beaches. It evaluates water quality through bacteriological monitoring and assesses potential contamination sources from wastewater systems, stormwater networks, and diffuse pollution. The analysis includes hydrodynamic modelling to identify contamination episodes and proposes corrective and preventive action plans.

Water

Atlantic Ocean waters off the Quiberon peninsula. The study includes analysis of currents, tides, and wave characteristics. Tidal range and water temperature data were recorded between 1997 and 2009.

Location

The bathing zones are located in Quiberon, a peninsula municipality in Brittany, France. The four beaches studied are Goviro, Conguel, Porigo, and Castero.

Water Quality

Bacteriological quality monitoring was conducted for each beach. Results from the Regional Health Authority (ARS) and self-monitoring data from the Quiberon wastewater treatment plant (STEP) for 2009 are included in the annexes. The study identifies multiple potential pollution sources affecting water quality.

Risks

Potential contamination risks identified include discharges from collective wastewater systems, non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater networks, diffuse pollution, and accidental pollution events. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential was assessed. The study models the extent and duration of contamination episodes affecting each beach.
