Le Portel is a bathing area located on the northern French coast in the Boulonnais region. The Centre Plage (Centre Beach) bathing zone is situated in the commune of Le Portel near Boulogne-sur-Mer. The beach is subject to Atlantic swell conditions and tidal influences characteristic of the English Channel coastline. Water quality monitoring has been conducted since 2014 to assess bacteriological contamination and identify pollution sources.

Potential contamination sources identified include the Le Portel technical wastewater treatment unit, agricultural activities in the catchment area, and inputs from watercourses. Phytoplankton monitoring, shellfish microbiological quality assessment, and macro-debris surveillance are conducted as part of health risk monitoring.
