Veillon Beach is a bathing area located in the commune of Talmont Saint Hilaire in the Vendée department on the Atlantic coast of France. The beach is situated within a dynamic coastal environment characterized by tidal movements and oceanic currents. Atlantic coastal bathing water. The site is subject to tidal movements with recorded tide heights at Sable d'Olonne. Tidal currents influence the hydrodynamics of the study area.

Water Quality

Bacteriological water quality is monitored by ARS (Regional Health Authority) according to European directives from 1976 and 2006. Beach closures have been recorded. Shellfish production zones in the area are monitored for bacteriological quality under REMI data collection. Potential pollution sources have been identified and evaluated, including wastewater networks, stormwater systems, treatment plants (Les Girondines and Beauregard stations), agricultural activities, non-collective sanitation systems, and the Bourgenay port.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include discharges from wastewater treatment plants, stormwater networks, agricultural runoff, non-collective sanitation systems, the Payré river, the neighboring commune of Jard-sur-Mer, the Bourgenay port, domestic animal access to the beach, beach commerce facilities, bather pollution, street and market washing, leisure park activities, and campervan accommodation. Macro-algae blooms and phytoplankton proliferation potential have been assessed.
