Lac Taillefer is a bathing lake located within the Bois Français leisure base, covering 30,000 square meters with a length of 250 meters and width of 120 meters. The lake is fed by the groundwater accompanying the Isère river and was created in the late 1960s through the modification of an old Isère meander. The bathing area is reserved exclusively for swimming, with a gravel beach approximately 400 meters long on the northeastern shore. The lake has been classified as excellent water quality by the Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency, with low documented pollution risk.

Water

A man-made lake with a surface area of 30,000 square meters, length of 250 meters, and width of 120 meters. Water level is approximately 216.7 meters above sea level (mNGF). The lake is fed by the Isère river's accompanying groundwater table, with groundwater flow direction following a northeast-southwest axis parallel to the Isère. A surface current flowing from east to west is commonly observed.

Location

The bathing area is located at the Bois Français leisure base on the communes of Saint Ismier and Le Versoud, managed by the Syndicat d'Aménagement du Bois Français. Parking is available at the site entrance.

Facilities

Toilets, showers, disabled access (PMR accessibility from entry booths), lifeguard mediation service, dry toilets, entry booths, snack facilities, and lockers are available.

Season

The bathing base is open from mid-May to early September, with annual attendance between 63,000 and 85,000 visitors.

Water Quality

The water has been classified as excellent quality by the Regional Health Agency. Independent laboratory analysis of water quality is conducted every 15 days during the bathing season and results are transmitted to the Regional Health Agency. Water quality classification follows European Directive 2006/7/CE criteria with monitoring of bacterial indicators and cyanobacteria proliferation potential.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation is monitored as a potential risk. Discharges from the Isère river historically caused bathing closures, though these have been significantly reduced following hydraulic works by SYMBHI. The most recent closure occurred in May 2016. The bathing base also remained closed from February to June 2018 due to opening of a northern stream.
