Plage des Quatre Vents is a bathing beach located in Plobannalec-Lesconil in Finistère, Brittany, at the mouth of the Stêr river where it meets the ocean. It is one of the two main bathing areas in the commune. The beach is situated in a granite geological context with rocky coastal seabeds. The bathing season runs from mid-June to mid-September, with the resident population of approximately 3,440 increasing to around 8,000 during the summer season.

Coastal bathing area at the mouth of the Stêr river opening to the ocean. The Stêr watershed covers 2,200 hectares across four communes: Loctudy, Plobannalec-Lesconil, Treffiagat-Léchiagat, and Plomeur. Coastal seabed consists of rocky substrate.

Location

Plobannalec-Lesconil, Finistère, Brittany. The beach is located at the mouth of the Stêr river. Commune area: 18.2 km². Altitude ranges from 0 to 27 metres.

14 June 2018 to 17 September 2018

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to European Directive 2006/7/CE, which measures two bacteriological parameters: intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli. Classification categories include excellent, good, sufficient, and insufficient quality. Rainfall influences contamination of the beaches. Average precipitation during the bathing season (June to September) for 2015-2018 was 59.3 mm, ranging from 7 mm to 144.7 mm.

Risks

Potential sources of contamination include wastewater treatment networks, rainwater discharge systems, agricultural activities in the watershed, and a motorhome parking area. Risk assessment identified both sewage and rainwater management as factors affecting water quality.
