Vallées Beach is a backed beach approximately 500 metres in length, oriented north, located in the municipality of Pléneuf-Val-André in the Côtes-d'Armor department. The beach is frequented by both local residents and tourists for swimming. As of the 2017 ARS classification, the bathing water quality is excellent according to Directive 2006/7/CE. The beach is a Type 2 bathing water profile where contamination risk is confirmed and causes are known.

Backed beach with a linear extent of approximately 500 metres, oriented north. Located on the Breton coast.

Location

Pléneuf-Val-André municipality, Côtes-d'Armor department. Accessible by road with a parking area located to the west of the beach.

Facilities

Lifeguard post, disabled access, water supply, toilets, shower during bathing season. Animals are prohibited.

Water Quality

2017 ARS classification: Excellent quality. The 2017 classification is based on monitoring results from 2014 to 2017. Historical classifications: 2013 (Good), 2014 (Excellent), 2015 (Good), 2016 (Good), 2017 (Excellent). A poor result was recorded on 8 August 2017 with 380 enterococci/100ml and 470 Escherichia coli/100ml. E. coli levels show instability at the boundary between good and excellent quality classifications compared to other monitored beaches in Pléneuf-Val-André.

Risks

A contamination event on 8 August 2017 recorded elevated enterococci and E. coli levels. The origin was not identified but may be linked to the wastewater treatment plant discharge which reached 650 NPP/100ml on 2 August 2017. The wastewater treatment plant outfall is located near the nearby shellfish gathering area.
