Lido Estensi is a sandy beach of significant tourist interest located in the Emilia Romagna region near Comacchio. It is part of a homogeneous coastal stretch of approximately 5.7 km, bordered to the north by the Porto Garibaldi Canal and to the south by the Bellocchio Canal outlet. The beach has no protective breakwaters and the surrounding area experiences high tourist use with numerous hotels and beach facilities. The beach width ranges from 240 to 380 metres and is currently experiencing sediment accumulation rather than erosion.

Water

Coastal marine water body classified as a flat alluvial area with high stability. Area extends 0.407 km. No watercourses discharge into this bathing water profile, nor are there direct discharges to sea.

Location

Municipality of Comacchio, province of Ferrara, Emilia Romagna region. Coordinates: centre X=12.2524° Y=44.6635°. The area is situated 200 metres north of the Canale Logonovo channel. Eight beach establishments with facilities are present on-site.

Eight beach establishments providing first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, accessible infrastructure without architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia Coli at 90th percentile: 27 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 33 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal Enterococci at 90th percentile: 13 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 14 CFU/100 ml. No direct sources of pollution are present in the bathing water area.

Risks

The Canale Logonovo outlet located immediately south of the bathing area is subject to continuous flow reversals and collects agricultural runoff from land drainage channels. This may cause eutrophication phenomena. Macroalgae proliferation of the genus Ulva occurred during July–August 2018 in the centre-northern coastal section, modifying the recreational use of the bathing zone during biomass accumulation. No cyanobacterial eutrophication events have been reported. No phytoplankton bloom effects (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) were recorded during 2015–2018.
