Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent from 2009 to 2012, with classification pending review as of 2016. A short-term pollution event occurred from 22 June 2009 to 13 July 2009, during which bathing was prohibited due to E. coli levels of 1733/100 ml. The source was identified as a storm sewer overflow (sfioratore di piena) in the Barro locality.

Risks

A storm sewer overflow in the Barro area poses a risk of short-term pollution events causing elevated E. coli levels. No cyanobacterial proliferation events were recorded in the preceding four years. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or harmful algal bloom episodes were documented.
