San Pietro is a sandy bathing area located on a coastal plain between the mouth of the Tacina River and the town of Botricello in Calabria. The beach has a mean seabed slope of 1.4% from the waterline to the 5-metre depth contour. The beach sediments range in grain size from 0.13 to 2 millimetres.

Botricello, Catanzaro Province, Calabria. The bathing area is situated in an agricultural zone between the mouth of the Aranco Stream and the town of Botricello.

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is served by a wastewater treatment plant for the municipality of Botricello, which uses an activated sludge biological system.

Risks

Potential short-duration pollution from accidental treatment plant failures or overflows at the Botricello wastewater treatment plant and from agricultural areas. Cyanobacteria proliferation events have not been recorded in the previous four years. Macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation has not been recorded in the previous four years.
