Water Quality

Water quality classification follows Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Bathing was advised against or prohibited for 4 days during the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events. Faecal contamination may originate from the Inha and Arda rivers that discharge near the beach or from sanitation infrastructure located upstream. Potential proliferation of cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton is unlikely.

Risks

Short-term pollution events are unlikely but may occur due to excessive river flow and tributary discharge during rainfall, leading to entrainment of microbiological load. Faecal contamination is a potential pollution source.
