Maguelone Ouest is a bathing water zone located in an open environment in the municipality of Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, where water circulation and renewal are facilitated. The bathing water was classified as good quality from 2005 to 2010 under the 76/160/CEE Directive, and achieved excellent quality classification in 2010 under the 2006/7/CE Directive. The zone is situated within an area of importance for bird conservation.

Coastal bathing water in an open environment with favorable water circulation and renewal conditions. The surrounding territory has low slopes with permeable terrain, which slows water runoff and reduces bacterial survival reaching the bathing zone.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as good from 2005 to 2010 under Directive 76/160/CEE. Under the newer Directive 2006/7/CE classification system, the bathing water achieved excellent quality in 2010. Monitoring data from the four preceding bathing seasons were used for quality assessment.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include birds (the zone is within an Important Bird Area) and recreational use during the summer season. Rain episodes can be of strong intensity, though infrequent. Predominant northwest winds tend to carry any pollutants offshore.
