Mändjala is a sandy beach located approximately 10 km from Kuressaare, the administrative centre of Saare County in Estonia. The beach stretches for 1800 metres along the Liivi Bay coastline and is an important recreational area for local residents, county visitors, and tourists. The beach is flanked by pine forest, with a gradual sandy seabed that descends slowly into deeper water. The beach area is part of the Järve dunes landscape protection area.

Water

Marine water body in Liivi Bay, part of the Läänemeri (Baltic Sea). The beach stretches 1800 metres. Maximum depth ranges from 0.2 to 1.7 metres. The seabed is sandy.

Location

Mändjala, Kaarma Municipality, Saare County, Estonia, approximately 10 km from Kuressaare. Five managed parking areas are available with boardwalk access to the beach through the pine forest.

Facilities

Changing cabins, waste bins, boardwalks from parking areas to beach, five managed parking areas. Before the swimming season, sand is sieved and debris is removed from the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent ("väga hea") for years 2010–2014. From 2010 to 2014, 29 samples were collected. All samples met the microbiological standards for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci according to Estonian regulations (Regulation No. 74 of 3 April 2008). Classification is determined using 4-year monitoring data and percentile calculations.
