Atlantic Ocean bathing area. The site experiences significant tidal variation and ocean currents characteristic of the Loire-Atlantique coast. Wave exposure includes west-facing ocean swells.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted from 2000 to 2010 with bacterial quality assessments. The 2006 EU Bathing Water Directive has been applied to classification. Potential pollution sources identified include coastal streams, storm water outlets, wastewater networks, and diffuse agricultural and non-collective sanitation pollution.

Risks

Potential pollution from multiple sources including coastal stream discharges, storm water outlets (including outlet PK 5200 observed during rainfall on 10 June 2010), wastewater collection networks, and diffuse pollution from agriculture and non-collective sanitation systems. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential has been assessed.
