Marina di Ravenna Sud is a coastal bathing area in the Ravenna municipality of Emilia-Romagna region, extending from the breakwater structures at Punta Marina to the campgrounds at Lido Adriano. The emerged beach has a variable width of 60 to 120 meters. The area contains 33 bathing establishments with first aid services, toilets for disabled persons, hot showers, and sports facilities. Sand replenishment interventions are regularly conducted in this area.

Water

Coastal marine water body in an alluvial plain with high stability. The area covers 2.611 square kilometers. The Canale del Molino discharges into the sea through a pumping system near Punta Marina, operated only during extreme weather events.

Location

Located in Ravenna municipality, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends from Punta Marina breakwater structures to the Campeggi via Fontana at Lido Adriano. The urban center of Punta Marina is located inland from the coast.

33 bathing establishments with first aid services, toilets (including facilities for disabled persons), hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage outlets.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is Excellent (reference years 2022-2023). Escherichia coli measurements: 92 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile), 138 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). Intestinal enterococci measurements: 37 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile), 50 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). The bathing area has no direct discharges or watercourses that would convey significant point or diffuse pollution sources.

Risks

Emergency overflow outlet n. 186 (mixed network) and stormwater discharges n. 186/2, 189, and 192 are present in the area. Extremely intense weather events can cause the Canale del Molino to discharge directly into the sea. The nearby Canale del Molino can cause eutrophication phenomena. No harmful algal blooms or phytoplankton blooms have been reported in the period 2020-2023.
