Marina Romea is a bathing water area located in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, extending from 220 metres south of the Lamone river mouth to the north breakwater of the Candiano Canal at the Port of Ravenna. The beach is 80 metres wide and backed by discontinuous urban development, with saltwater marshes inland. The area contains 29 beach establishments with first aid services and facilities for disabled visitors.

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. Bathing area extends 3.044 km. No rivers discharge into the bathing waters, and there are no direct discharges to sea.

Location

Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna province. The bathing area extends from 220 metres south of the Lamone river mouth to the north breakwater of the Candiano Canal at the Port of Ravenna.

Facilities

29 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets (including for disabled users), hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food outlets. Kitesurf launch areas at Aloha Beach, Moderno, Tarifa, Adriatico Wind Club, and Up Wind Association.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2020–2023). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 29 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 37 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 10 CFU/100 ml; Intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 10 CFU/100 ml. Two pollution episodes occurred in 2023 caused by a May 2023 flood event in Romagna.

Risks

The Candiano Canal discharges into the sea south of the area, potentially causing eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial proliferation events reported in the past four years. No phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae blooms recorded between 2020 and 2023.
