Milano Marittima is a sandy coastal bathing area located in the Emilia-Romagna region near Ravenna. The beach extends from 200 metres south of the Via Cupa Nuovo canal to 200 metres north of the Cervia canal entrance. The area is backed by discontinuous residential development with parks, villas, coniferous forests, and golf courses inland. The beach is 50 metres wide and has achieved an Excellent water quality classification.

Water

Coastal marine water in a plain alluvial area with high stability. The bathing area extends 3.248 km along the coast. The area is subject to periodic beach nourishment works.

Location

Located in Cervia municipality, Ravenna Province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area is situated 100 metres north of the Saline inlet canal. Coordinates: centre at 12.3538°E, 44.2846°N.

Facilities

70 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled users, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage outlets. Nine diving platforms are present, eight of which are at various beach clubs.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli: 63 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile), 95 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). Enterococci: 26 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile), 32 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). No direct discharges or watercourses flow into the bathing area.

Risks

During heavy precipitation, potential discharges from the Saline inlet canal may activate, with water flowing to sea near the bathing area. The nearby Saline inlet canal may cause eutrophication. Macroalgae of genus Ulva proliferated in the central-northern coastal stretch during July–August 2018. No sustained eutrophic phenomena caused by cyanobacteria have been recorded.
