Water
Bathing beaches located on various lakes and water bodies in the Jyväskylä region including Lake Jyväsjärvi, Lake Tuomiojärvi, Lake Päijänne, Lake Neulajärvi, Lake Korttajärvi, Lake Leppävesi, Lake Palokkajärvi, Lake Kaakkolamma, Lake Kivilamma, Lake Luonetjärvi, Lake Myllyjärvi, Lake Myllylampi, and Lake Sääksjärvi. Water bodies feature sandy bottoms at most beaches, with some having mud bottoms or rocky areas.
Location
Jyväskylä region and surrounding municipalities including Vaajakoski, Säynätsalo, Tikkakoski, Puuppola, Korpilahti, and Kuohu. Individual beach addresses and postal codes are provided for each of the 36 beaches. Parking availability varies by location; some beaches have designated parking areas while others lack immediate parking.
Facilities
Facilities vary by beach classification. All beaches provide: rescue ring, waste bin, dog prohibition sign, toilet, changing cubicles, information board. EU beaches additionally have: smoking prohibition signs. Enhanced facilities at selected beaches include: lifeguards, diving boards, piers, change rooms, kioski (refreshment), beach volleyball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, playground, canoe pier. Hand washing facilities are not available at beaches.
Season
Lifeguard supervision operates June 9 to August 8, 2025 at Tuomiojärvi and Köhniö beaches, Monday to Sunday 12:00–20:00, with reduced hours Monday to Thursday during the Midsummer week. Water quality monitoring is conducted throughout the swimming season.
Water Quality
Water quality monitoring is conducted by Environmental Health through water sampling. Inspections include assessment of beach cleanliness and waste management. EU beaches must meet strict quality criteria. Smoking is prohibited on EU beaches from May 1 to September 30.
Risks
Diving is prohibited from all piers due to insufficient water depth. Jumping tower use requires swimming ability and strict adherence to safety rules. Prohibited activities include: cycling and motor vehicle use, unauthorized rescue device use, damaging beach equipment, dog and pet entry, bird feeding, fishing from public beaches and piers.
