Nazaré beach is a long sandy beach located in a beautiful bay surrounded by exuberant cliffs featuring a panoramic elevator. The bathing water area is very touristy and includes the beach south of Nazaré harbour.

Location

Nazaré municipality. Sampling point coordinates: LAT 39.601583°, LONG -9.075483° (ETRS89).

Season

June 1 to September 15, 2021. Biweekly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020 according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No significant microbiological pollution sources identified near the bathing water. One day of bathing was advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution in bathing season 2020. No history of short-term pollution events on record.

Risks

Potential for cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely. Warning signs will be posted if beach users are considered at risk.
