The Neue Donau downstream of Reichsbrücke is a flood relief channel for the Danube River constructed between 1972 and 1988. It normally functions as a standing water body divided into two impoundments by three weirs and is not connected to the main Danube. Swimming is not permitted during flood discharge periods.
